How to Write a Sales Resume That Gets Interviews: The Complete 2026 Guide
Hiring managers spend 6 seconds on your resume. Here's how to make every second count.
Why Most Sales Resumes Get Rejected
No numbers
Responsibilities without results get ignored. Metrics get interviews.
Wrong format
A generic template doesn't show you're a salesperson.
Buried achievements
Hiring managers scan, not read. Your wins need to be unmissable.
The 7 Sections of a High-Converting Sales Resume
Every section below has a job to do. Use this as a checklist before you submit any application.
Contact & Headline
Your name, email, phone, LinkedIn URL, and a one-line professional headline beneath your name. The headline is the first thing a hiring manager reads — make it specific and metric-led.
Word-for-word example
B2B Account Executive | $1.2M ARR | SaaS
Summary (3 lines max)
Lead with your biggest achievement. Mention the type of sales you specialise in (B2B/B2C/SaaS/enterprise). End with what you're targeting next. Keep it to three sentences.
Word-for-word example
Consistent quota-attainer (118% average over 3 years) in B2B SaaS, with a focus on mid-market accounts in the HR tech space. I specialise in consultative selling — long cycles, multiple stakeholders, and complex procurement. Looking for a Senior AE role where I can work on strategic accounts and develop toward a team lead position.
Work Experience
Every bullet point starts with an action verb and includes at least one number. Focus on results — quota attainment, revenue generated, win rate, deal size — not tasks. If you can't quantify something, ask yourself whether it belongs on the resume.
Word-for-word example
• Closed 34 new logos in FY2025, generating $1.8M in ARR (127% of quota) • Shortened average sales cycle by 18 days through structured multi-threading • Converted 41% of trials to paid — highest on the team for two consecutive quarters
Key Metrics Section
A standalone box labelled "2025 Performance Highlights" — this is the single most-scanned section of a sales resume. Include: quota attainment %, rank on team, average deal size, and average sales cycle length.
Word-for-word example
2025 Performance Highlights → 127% quota attainment → Ranked #2 of 18 AEs → Avg. deal size: $52K → Avg. sales cycle: 47 days
Skills
Separate technical skills from soft skills. Technical: CRM platforms, sales tools, and methodologies. Soft: discovery, negotiation, pipeline management. Keep each list to 6–8 items maximum.
Word-for-word example
Technical: Salesforce, Outreach, Gong, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, HubSpot, MEDDIC Soft: Discovery & Qualification, Objection Handling, Multi-threading, Pipeline Management, Negotiation
Education
Keep this section brief — one or two lines per qualification. Add any relevant sales certifications below your degree: Sandler Training, HubSpot Sales Certification, Challenger Sale, etc.
Word-for-word example
BA Business & Marketing — University of Manchester, 2019 Sandler Sales Certification — 2022 HubSpot Inbound Sales Certification — 2023
Awards & Recognition
President's Club, top 10%, top rep, rookie of the year — any formal recognition goes here. If you have multiple awards, move this section near the top of your resume. It's a powerful signal that hiring managers notice immediately.
Word-for-word example
• President's Club — FY2024 & FY2025 • Top 10% of Sales Team — Q2, Q3, Q4 2024 • Rookie of the Year — FY2022

Common Mistakes That Kill Your Application
No quota attainment %
The single most important number on a sales resume. If it's missing, hiring managers assume you didn't hit quota.
Vague descriptions
"Team player", "results-oriented" say nothing. Every line should be specific, measurable, and yours.
One resume for every job
Tailor the headline and summary for each role. A 30-minute customisation can be the difference between an interview and a rejection.
Fancy design templates
ATS systems can't parse columns, text boxes, and graphics. A clean, single-column layout outperforms a visually impressive one every time.
Missing LinkedIn
Every sales hire checks your profile before the interview. Make sure your LinkedIn matches your resume — inconsistencies raise red flags.
